How to grow magnolia in winter

How to grow magnolia in winter

1. Maintain temperature

When growing magnolia in winter, the most important thing is temperature. For potted plants, they need to be moved indoors in late October to avoid being affected by frost and the temperature should be maintained at around 5-10 degrees Celsius. The temperature does not need to be too high. Wait until the spring of next year to move them outside for maintenance. Trees planted outdoors cannot be moved indoors, so you can wrap the trees with warm materials or cover the ground with straw to raise the temperature.

2. Exposure to sunlight

The intensity of sunlight in winter is lower, so you must get more exposure to sunlight, which can absorb sunlight to synthesize nutrients and also increase your own temperature. For potted plants that are moved indoors, they can be placed on a balcony with good lighting so that they can be fully exposed to sunlight.

3. Control water intake

The temperature drops in winter and evaporation is greatly reduced, so there is not much demand for water. Wait until the soil is completely dry before watering. Keep the soil on a dry state and not too wet. If the surrounding air is too dry, you can spray water mist around it appropriately. This will increase the humidity of the environment and prevent yellowing leaves due to dryness.

4. Stop fertilizing

At this time, growth basically stagnates, the demand for nutrients decreases, and fertilization can be stopped.
