1. Sowing time

The planting time of poppy is generally in spring or autumn. Spring sowing is carried out in March and April, and autumn sowing is carried out in September to November. If you want to collect seeds, autumn sowing is generally used. The temperature is high in summer, and the seedlings are easily burned by strong light after they grow out. The temperature is too low in winter and the seeds are not easy to germinate.

2. Planting Method

1. Pot soil requirements: Poppy is suitable for growing in loose and fertile soil. If it is planted in the ground, do not choose a low-lying and humid place, the soil fertility cannot be too high, and pay attention to sunny and ventilated conditions, otherwise the plant will easily grow poorly. For potted plants, use sandy loam. The diameter of the flowerpot should be about 20 cm and there should be drainage holes at the bottom.

2. Sowing method: Generally, 20 to 30 seeds are needed for sowing poppies. They are scattered on the surface of the soil and covered with a layer of fine soil, making sure that the seeds are just invisible. Do not water the plants immediately after sowing. Instead, place them in a large basin of water and allow the water to slowly penetrate into the pot through the drainage holes at the bottom. This will allow you to better control the amount of water.

3. Subsequent maintenance: After the seedlings emerge from the soil, it is necessary to remove the weak ones and keep the strong ones. Generally, it is appropriate to keep 3-5 plants. When it grows to 30 cm in height, you should add soil to prevent the plant from falling over. Normally, it is necessary to ensure sufficient light and provide fresh air. When watering, do not water too much or too little to avoid the plants from drought or waterlogging.
