How to propagate roses by cuttings (detailed explanation of the cutting method)

1. Time for cuttings

It is very easy to propagate roses by cuttings, and this is also a very common method of propagation. Cuttings can be taken in spring, early summer and autumn, with spring and autumn being the most suitable seasons. Because the climate in summer is very stuffy, the cuttings can easily be damaged if not managed properly.

2. Cutting method

1. Prepare the soil: It is extremely important to prepare the substrate when grafting. It can only take root in suitable soil, which must have a certain water retention capacity and be loose enough. If the soil is too loose, it will affect rooting.

2. Pruning: Cut sufficiently strong branches from the mother plant. You can choose young branches or branches after flowering. After cutting the branches, they need to be processed for cuttings as soon as possible, because the branches are more nutritious at this time and are easier to grow new roots.

3. Treatment: Cut off all the leaves at the end of the branches, and keep a few leaves on the upper part. Afterwards, use potassium permanganate for disinfection. The concentration should not be too high. Soak it in one thousandth of the solution and take it out after about 5-10 minutes. Or you can use rooting powder, which can also disinfect and promote rooting.

4. Cutting: The last step is to carefully insert the branches into the substrate, then water it thoroughly and place it in a shady location for maintenance. Avoid exposure to sunlight at noon, but get appropriate exposure to sunlight in the morning or afternoon.
