Dragon fruit cutting season, are there positive and negative cuttings?

Dragon fruit cutting season, are there positive and negative cuttings?

1. Cutting season

The suitable season for dragon fruit cuttings is spring. Usually the temperature at this time is very stable and the plant growth is also very vigorous. At this time, if you cut strong stems and branches from the mother plant for cuttings, the rooting speed and rate will be very high. In addition, it can also be carried out in autumn, but it is necessary to ensure that the temperature does not change too much.

2. Are there positive and negative sides?

When grafting pitaya, you need to distinguish the front and back, with the cut side facing downwards. Only when the cuttings are in full contact with the soil can they grow new roots. If the uncut side of the top of the stem is facing downward, it will basically not take root.

3. Precautions for cuttings

1. Disinfection: Before cutting, the substrate prepared in advance must be disinfected, because bacteria can easily breed in the soil, so it is important to do a good job of disinfection. Another method is to use potassium permanganate to disinfect the stems and branches, or apply wood ash on the cut.

2. Watering: After the cutting work is completed, you don’t need to water it yet. Wait for about 10 days before watering it. Before it grows new roots, it is best to place it in a cool place with good air circulation. It will take root very quickly and usually grow roots in less than a month.
