Clivia sowing method and sowing time

Clivia sowing method and sowing time

Clivia is a perennial flower plant belonging to the genus Clivia of the Amaryllis family. Its flowers are brightly colored and beautifully shaped. It has always been regarded as a symbol of nobility and elegance and is deeply loved by people. So how do you sow Clivia? Let’s take a look at the sowing method and time of Clivia.

Clivia sowing time

The sowing time for Clivia can generally be chosen in spring and autumn. Among them, spring sowing is best done in March and April, when the temperature gradually warms up and the soil temperature also gradually rises, which is conducive to seed germination and growth. The best time for autumn sowing is from September to November, when the climate is mild and the air quality is good, which is also suitable for the growth of Clivia.

Clivia sowing method

1. Seed selection

When the fruit of Clivia is ripe, the skin will turn black and purple, and can be cut off at this time. Wait about half a month and remove the seeds from the fruit. Pay attention to selecting seeds with full grains and buds, as such seeds have a higher germination rate.

2. Seed treatment

Soak the seeds in warm water at 30-35℃ for 20-30 minutes, take them out and dry them for 1-2 hours. You can also soak it in 10% sodium phosphate solution for 20-30 minutes, take it out, wash it, and then soak it in clean water for 10-15 hours to increase the germination rate.

3. Pot soil selection

Clivia prefers slightly acidic soil, with a pH value of 6-6.5. You can use a mixture of leaf mold, pine needle soil, river sand, etc., or you can use wood shavings or sawdust as the substrate. For pots, you can choose clay pots with good air permeability. Note that the soil and flower pots must be disinfected before use.

4. Key points for sowing

Place the prepared substrate into the flowerpot, level it and water it thoroughly. Then bury the seed eyes down into the substrate and cover with 2-3 cm of soil. After sowing, you need to water it thoroughly and place it in a ventilated and well-lit place to wait for germination.

5. Transplant at the right time

When the seeds germinate, they can be transplanted when the first leaf grows to about 5 cm. When transplanting, you need to be careful to protect the root system to avoid damage. After transplanting, the Clivia should be placed in a cool and ventilated place to allow the seedlings to grow slowly. After waiting for about half a month, you can gradually move it to a sunny and ventilated place indoors and resume normal maintenance and management .

The above is an introduction to the sowing method and time of Clivia, but specific adjustments need to be made according to the variety habits and local climatic conditions. In addition, after sowing, attention should be paid to maintenance management such as light, temperature, watering and fertilization to ensure the healthy growth of the plants.
