Cabbage , also known as lettuce, is a very delicious, nutritious and versatile vegetable that many people grow at home. Here are some tips on planting and harvesting time for cabbage. 1. Planting time Cabbage has strong adaptability and is both cold-resistant and heat-resistant. It can be cultivated in the open field in spring, summer and autumn in northern China. In the high-altitude and cold regions of Northeast, Northwest and North China, crops can be planted in summer and harvested in autumn. In some cities in North China, Northeast China and Northwest China, cultivation is mainly carried out in spring and autumn, but multiple crops can also be carried out. 2. Seedling cultivation method Cabbage cultivation can be carried out by seedling transplanting. Most of them are early-maturing cultivation. In cold areas such as the Northeast, Northwest, and Inner Mongolia, seedlings can be grown in greenhouses from February to March. Seedlings are grown indoors for four to six weeks and then transplanted outdoors a few weeks before the last frost. 3. Planting Cabbage and its root system begin to move when the soil temperature is above 5℃. Spring cabbage can be planted when the average daily temperature reaches above 6℃. It is dry in spring in the north, so you can use flat-bed cultivation. In summer, it is hot and rainy, so try to bring more soil with you to avoid damaging the roots. Water after planting to help the plants survive. 4. Fertilizer and water management After cabbage is planted, it needs to be watered to help the seedlings grow. Due to the low temperature, the soil should be tilled and loosened in time after watering to help retain moisture and increase ground temperature, thereby promoting the recovery and growth of the root system. When entering the rosette stage, the plant needs to form a powerful assimilation organ and absorb more water and fertilizer. It can be fertilized for the first time, applying 15 to 20 kilograms of nitrogen fertilizer per acre, and fully supply water to promote the growth of leaf bulbs. After the leaf ball is formed, watering should be controlled to prevent cracking and facilitate storage. 5. Pest control Cabbage is easily harmed by cabbage worms in the early stages of its growth. Cabbage worms are the larvae of the cabbage butterfly, which will eat tender leaves and cause a total crop failure. Low-intensity, low-residue and high-efficiency insecticides can be used for control. The best time to spray the insecticide is in the evening. Spraying at this time can avoid changes in concentration and composition caused by sunlight, which is conducive to the maximum effectiveness of the insecticide. 6. Harvest The growing time for cabbage depends on the variety; after planting the seeds, it may take 80 to 180 days for the cabbage to mature. After transplanting the seedlings, it takes 60 to 105 days for the cabbage to mature. That’s it |
