Can petunias be propagated by cuttings?

Petunia likes an environment with plenty of sunlight, and the same is true for petunias after cuttings. However, petunias are not frost-resistant and are afraid of rain and waterlogging. They grow at 13℃-18℃. When the temperature is lower than 4℃ or higher than 35℃, the petunias after cuttings will stop growing.

Petunia cutting propagation

Petunias can be propagated by cuttings. When doing so, you can mix sawdust and garden soil in a ratio of 1:2. Stir them thoroughly after mixing, and then add some cow dung as base fertilizer. But pay attention to the amount applied. It is best to have a similar amount to sawdust. You can also use sandy soil and peat soil, half each, and mix them evenly. In addition, you can also add some perlite, so that the soil for petunias propagated by cuttings will be better permeable.

Petunia cutting time

Petunias are usually propagated by cuttings in spring and autumn. The survival rate of cuttings in these two seasons is relatively high because the temperature is suitable and the air is dry in spring and autumn, so petunias will grow better after cuttings.

Petunia cutting propagation method

The propagation method of petunia by cuttings is relatively simple. When cuttings, choose young branches that are well-growing, free of pests and diseases, and sturdy. Cut 10-15 cm, keep 2-3 leaves on the top, and cut off the rest of the leaves. Cut the bottom into oblique sections, apply carbendazim to the wound, place it in a cool and ventilated place, and wait until the wound shrinks before cutting.
