What fertilizer should be applied to osmanthus trees?

Sweet osmanthus is one of the top ten famous flowers in my country and has a long history of cultivation in my country. It is widely cultivated in Guangxi, Yunnan, Guizhou, Sichuan, Jiangsu and Zhejiang. So what kind of fertilizer should be used when planting osmanthus trees ? Let’s learn more about it below.

What fertilizer should be applied to osmanthus trees?

1. Seedling stage

For smaller osmanthus seedlings , try to use organic fertilizers with a relatively balanced nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium. This can provide the seedlings with more comprehensive nutrition, and the seedlings will grow stronger and faster. When fertilizing young trees, pay attention to the amount of fertilizer and control it well to avoid fertilizer damage.

2. Flowering period

When osmanthus begins to bloom, it is mainly necessary to apply phosphorus and potassium fertilizers. Phosphorus fertilizer can promote leaf growth, and potassium fertilizer promotes flowering. You can also use the method of root irrigation and leaf spraying. Dissolve the fertilizer in water according to a certain proportion and spray it on the leaves. Since the leaves have stomata, the fertilizer sprayed on the leaves can be effectively absorbed.

3. Before winter

After October, the temperature is still high, and osmanthus photosynthesis is still going on, and its root growth has not stopped. You can apply quick-acting fertilizer mainly composed of nitrogen and a combination of phosphorus and potassium. Lay a good foundation for growth and flowering the following year. Apply inorganic fertilizer or organic fertilizer again in the early stage of winter as "winter fertilizer" to enhance the plant's resistance to cold during the winter.

Precautions for fertilizing osmanthus trees

1. Avoid hot fertilizer. Do not fertilize osmanthus at noon or around noon in summer. The soil temperature is high at this time and topdressing can easily damage the roots. It is best to fertilize in the evening and then water.

2. Avoid concentrated fertilizers. The concentration of fertilizer for osmanthus should not be too high or excessive. It should be applied thinly and frequently, with seven parts water and three parts fertilizer being the best.

3. Avoid raw fat. Applying uncomposted farmyard manure will produce high temperatures during fermentation, causing root damage.

4. Avoid sitting on fat. When repotting osmanthus, apply enough base fertilizer. However, you should add a layer of soil on top of the fertilizer, or bury the fertilizer in the soil at the bottom and edges of the pot. It is strictly forbidden to expose the roots to avoid contact between the roots and fertilizer, which may cause root damage.

5. Try to choose phosphorus and potassium fertilizers mainly composed of organic matter. Chemical fertilizers can be used in combination with organic fertilizers according to the amount of cultivation.

6. When necessary, use liquid fertilizer for irrigation and try to avoid using solid fertilizer to reduce or alleviate the chance of fertilizer damage.
