Causes and treatments for yellow leaves of Verbena

Causes and treatments for yellow leaves of Verbena

1. Improper fertilization

1. Reason: If the fertilizer concentration is too high when fertilizing petunias, the soil will become compacted and nutrients cannot be absorbed normally, causing them to turn yellow. If too little fertilizer is applied during the growth period, sufficient nutrients cannot be provided, and the leaves will turn yellow and fall off due to lack of nutrients.

2. Treatment method: If the soil is compacted, it needs to be transplanted into new potting soil and the leaves that have turned yellow need to be cut off. When applying fertilizer in the future, the fertilizer should be diluted first; during the growing period, it is sufficient to apply diluted compound fertilizer once every half a month or so, and not too much.

2. Water shortage

1.Reason: The roots of Verbena are relatively shallow and cannot absorb water from deep groundwater. Therefore, if watering is not timely and the water in the soil is insufficient for a long time, its growth and development will be stagnate and the leaves will turn yellow.

2. Treatment method: Pay more attention to the growth of the plant and the condition of the soil. Cut off excess branches and stems. Water the plant frequently during the growing season, ensuring that it is watered once every 6-8 days. The amount of watering should not be too much each time.

3. Temperature discomfort

1.Reason: Temperatures below 5 degrees Celsius or above 25 degrees Celsius will affect its growth. If the temperature is too low, it will cause growth to stagnate and the leaves to turn yellow and fall off; if the temperature is too high, it will cause water and nutrients to evaporate and be lost, and the leaves will become dehydrated and turn yellow.

2. Treatment method: At this time, the withered branches and leaves should be cut off immediately, and the plant should be transplanted to a greenhouse or indoors with suitable temperature and carefully cared for. During the subsequent breeding process, the plants can be moved indoors for maintenance during the low temperature period in winter; in summer, pay attention to spraying water to cool down and avoid prolonged direct sunlight.
