What to do if the freesia roots are rotten

What to do if the freesia roots are rotten

Why does freesia root rot?

There are several reasons why freesia roots rot.

One is overwatering, which is the main cause of root rot in freesia. Freesia itself does not like it to be too wet, nor too dry. When growing freesia, watering too much will cause the soil to be too moist, or even have water accumulation, and root rot is very likely to occur.

The second is that the fertilizer is too concentrated. When too much fertilizer is applied or the fertilizer is too concentrated, the roots are most easily affected because the fertilizer is applied close to the roots. Too much or too concentrated fertilizer will burn the roots and then cause root rot.

The third is insufficient ventilation. When growing freesia, the environment must be ventilated and the air must be fresh. Otherwise, an unventilated environment, coupled with unclean air, can easily produce bacteria and fungi, leading to root rot.

What to do if freesia roots rot

When root rot occurs, you can look for solutions based on the cause.

Don't water too much. It's better to water when the soil is dry and not overwater. When applying fertilizer, avoid using large amounts of fertilizer. You can apply organic fertilizer or compound fertilizer once every two weeks. During the maintenance period, the air should be kept fresh and unobstructed, and ventilation should be done well.

If the freesia has root rot, you can cut off the rotten part and replant it after the wound heals.
