How to plant Zephyranthes seeds

How to plant Zephyranthes seeds

1. Sowing time

The sowing time is determined by the harvesting time. The germination rate is relatively high after the seeds are picked, which has a lot to do with the freshness of the seeds. Generally, it can be sown in all seasons, but the temperature is relatively low in winter, so it should be done in a warm place indoors.

2. Seed Collection

Before seeds are produced, pollination must be carried out. Usually, if you want to obtain seeds with good results, you must cross-pollinate the mother and father flowers many times, combine the pollen of several flowers, and pollinate one flower at the same time, the fruit setting rate will be greatly improved. The seeds finally collected are crescent-shaped black seeds, very light.

3. Sowing Method

1. Water is used here to catalyze the seeds. Find a container, fill it with cool water (tap water will also work), and put the seeds in it. No special treatment is needed, just change the water every day. If you don’t want to be so diligent, you can change the water every two or three days. This is mainly to prevent the seeds from rotting due to stale water. Since the seeds are relatively light and float on the water, be careful not to pour them all out when changing the water. When the seeds grow small white sprouts, be even more careful when changing the water so as not to break the tender sprouts. You can drain half of the water at a time and replace the other half.

2. After about four or five days, the seeds soaked in water will grow small white sprouts, which are the prototypes of roots. Take it out and prepare to plant in the soil.

3. Prepare a flowerpot, preferably one with good drainage and ventilation properties. Plant the seeds with young roots facing down in the pot, and cover them with soil. It does not need to be very thick, just enough to cover the seeds by about 0.2 cm. The density of planting is not too strict at this time, and the seeds need to be transplanted after the seedlings emerge.

4. After planting the seeds, find a large pot, put the flower pot in it, and pour water into it. The water will seep into the soil in the pot and achieve the purpose of watering. Do not rinse with water directly, as the seeds are relatively fragile and light at this time, which is not conducive to rooting.

After the seedlings grow, they can be gradually exposed to light, but do not expose them to direct sunlight or baking to avoid burns.
