How to save Begonia root rot

How to save Begonia root rot

1. Increase breathability

Reason: Begonia needs good air permeability to grow. If the soil has poor air permeability, it will affect its growth, and in severe cases it will cause the roots to rot.

Solution: Cut off the rotten roots, replace with suitable soil, and loosen the soil appropriately during daily maintenance to increase soil permeability and allow the crabapple roots to breathe better.

2. Reduce the amount of fertilizer

Reason: If too much fertilizer is applied, the roots of the crabapple will rot and the leaves will turn yellow.

Solution: Give it plenty of water to wash away the excess fertilizer. If the root rot is very serious, remove it from the potting soil in time, cut off the rotten roots, and replant it in new potting soil.

3. Dealing with waterlogging in the pot soil

Reason: If you water too much or fail to control the amount of water, it will easily cause water accumulation in the potting soil. If water accumulates in the potting soil for a long time, it will cause root rot.

Solution: Tilt the flowerpot to allow the accumulated water to drain, or spread drier soil on the surface of the potting soil, or use old newspapers to absorb water.

4. Recultivation

Reason: If the root rot is discovered in the early stage, it can be remedied, but if it is discovered late, it will be necessary to change the pot and replant.

Solution: Take the crabapple out of the soil in the pot and cut off the rotten roots. Be careful not to create new wounds when cutting. Then soak it in carbendazim and replant it.
