Octopus orchid pests and their control

Pests of Octopus Orchid

The main pests of octopus orchid are scale insects, thrips, spider mites, snails, slugs and other pests.

Scale insects often parasitize on the back of leaves. If the leaves are thick, they will be less affected by scale insects. Thrips mainly appear during the flowering period of octopus orchids. This type of pest is more likely to occur if they are grown indoors. Spider mites generally refer to small insects such as red spiders, yellow spiders, and white spiders. Spider mites are more likely to appear when the weather is hot and dry. They will cause grayish-white spots to appear on the leaves of the octopus orchid, and in severe cases, the leaves will shrink and deform. On cloudy days or in the evening, snails and slugs often harm plants. Snails and slugs will gnaw on the roots of the leaves of the octopus orchid, so timely prevention should be taken.

Octopus orchid pest control

When caring for octopus orchids, in order to prevent the occurrence of pests or avoid the severity and spread of pests, we should frequently check the leaves of octopus orchids to observe whether there are any pests.

When scale insects appear, pay attention to ventilating the environment where the octopus orchid is grown, and then spray relevant pesticides. When thrips appear, you can use insect-attracting paper to catch and kill the insects. Of course, you can also use professional and safe insecticides to spray them carefully. When spider mites appear, you can increase the moisture level of the octopus orchid leaves, because insects like spider mites like a humid environment and hate a humid environment. If snails and slugs appear, you can sprinkle quicklime on the flower pots and stands. This can effectively drive away the snails and slugs. Saturated salt water can be used instead of quicklime and can achieve the same effect.
