How to make Michelia bonsai

How to make Michelia bonsai

Prepare the Materials

Michelia, organic soil, fertilizer, water, watering can, flower shears, and flower pots.

The process of basin

Select pot

Michelia is best planted in a medium-deep purple clay pot or glazed pot. The color of the flowerpot can be chosen as crabapple red or cinnabar purple to complement the green leaves and yellow flowers. The best shapes for flower pots are round and square.

Use soil

Michelia likes fertile, loose, humus-rich acidic soil. Potted plants are often made from a mixture of mountain mud, leaf mold and sand.

plant

It is best to plant it in pots in March or April in spring, as it is warm and humid at this time, which is conducive to the growth of Michelia in pots. Prune branches and roots properly before planting. After planting, place it in a cool place for 10 days and manage it normally after the plant grows normally.

Of course, there is also the simplest way to skip the above steps. Just buy a pot of simple-shaped Michelia from the market, and you can skip the process of potting! However, when purchasing, choose one that is 3 to 4 years old. After taking care of it for a period of time, you can shape it!

Posture

Processing

Michelia is processed into bonsai, which generally adopts a combination of climbing and pruning during the rainy season. Palm fiber is used for climbing and tying the main branches into shapes as needed, while the remaining branches are pruned.

Tree

The shape of Michelia should be mainly natural, but the main effort still depends on pruning. It can also be made into a curved or slanted trunk style. Old stumps can also be made into a posture with exposed roots and hanging claws.

Maintenance management

Placement

Michelia bonsai should be placed in a semi-shaded and humid place. Avoid direct sunlight and provide shade, but not complete shade, to prevent the plant from growing too tall and affecting its shape.

Watering

Normally, the soil in the pot should be kept moist, but not too wet, because the roots are mostly fleshy. If you water too much or the pot is waterlogged after rain, the roots will easily rot. Therefore, watering should be properly controlled during the rainy season. Sufficient water is needed during the growing period and before and after flowering. Water once a day to promote plant growth. In autumn and winter, water 1 to 2 times a week.

Fertilization

Michelia likes fertilizer, and it is mostly applied with rotted cake fertilizer, bone meal, chicken and duck manure, fish intestines and other fermented fertilizers mixed with water. Only sufficient nutrients can ensure a full plant shape. Stop fertilizing during the flowering period and after October. If you find that the leaf color is not bright and dark green, you can apply a light alum fertilizer water.
