Symptoms of hyacinth mosaic disease

In the early stage of the disease, the symptoms are mild, the glossiness of the leaves decreases, small spots appear, and gradually form brown stripes or patches. In severe cases, the leaves turn yellow and twist, the plant becomes short, there are no flowers or the flowers are small during the flowering period, and the bulbs degenerate.

Pathogen analysis

The main pathogen of mosaic disease is mosaic virus, which will mutate at a high temperature of 68°C. In addition, viruses of other flowers such as tulip, daffodil, and lily viruses can cause mosaic disease of hyacinth.

Disease pattern

In its natural state, the virus can infect hyacinths. This virus is transmitted mechanically, and branches and leaves can be infected when they come into contact with the bacteria. If pests and diseases such as nematodes and aphids occur, it can be transmitted.

Prevention and treatment methods

Mosaic disease cannot be cured, it can only be prevented. If you pay more attention to maintenance, you will worry less.

① Before planting, select bulbs from disease-free plants and disinfect the bulbs before planting.

② Disinfect the soil before planting and irrigate with Bordeaux liquid solution.

③ Kill pests and eliminate pathogens in time.

④ Once small spots are found on the leaves, spray the pesticide immediately to disinfect and clean up the diseased leaves in time to avoid cross infection.

⑤ When planting, do not plant it in the same pot with other plants, but maintain it separately. If you have a lot of plants at home, be careful not to place hyacinths close to tulips, daffodils, lilies and other plants to avoid the spread of germs and diseases.
