Common diseases and pests of Bougainvillea and their control methods

Bougainvillea leaf spot

symptom

The spots are initially yellow-brown with a yellow-green halo around them, and then expand into nearly circular or irregular spots with dark brown edges. In the later stages, small black dots appear on the spots.

Prevention and treatment methods

If a small number of spots are found on the leaves, you can apply Daktarin cream ointment on them and cut off the branches with more diseased spots.

In the early stage of the disease, 500 times diluted 50% carbendazim wettable powder can generally be used for prevention and control, spraying once every 7 to 10 days. In severe cases, spray again on the fourth day according to the actual situation, and then spray once every 7 days. Repeat 3 to 4 times for better prevention and control effect.

Bougainvillea brown spot

symptom

Brown spot disease mainly harms the leaves of Bougainvillea, producing yellow-brown to light brown spots with a diameter of 0.1 to 0.5 cm on the leaf surface.

Prevention and treatment methods

If a small amount of diseased leaves are found, remove and burn them in time. In the early stage of the disease, use 400 times diluted 70% mancozeb wettable powder, spray once every 10 days, for 3 to 4 times in a row.

Bougainvillea scale insect

symptom

In an environment with poor lighting, poor ventilation, high temperature and high humidity, various scale insects are prone to damage. When the disease occurs, many small white protrusions will appear on the leaves, affecting the appearance. In the later stage, scale insects suck the sap from the leaves, causing leaf damage and affecting plant growth.

Prevention and treatment methods

If you find a small number of scale insects, rinse them with clean water or scrape them off with a bamboo stick.

In severe cases, 1000 times diluted 45% malathion emulsifiable concentrate can be used for spraying. Try not to use pesticides when doing home maintenance, and pay attention to the concentration when spraying biological agents in a timely manner to avoid affecting the health of your family.
