Diseases and control methods of arrowroot

Diseases of Arrowroot

The common diseases of Arrowroot are white rot and leaf spot. Let’s focus on these two diseases today.

Scaly rot of Calathea truncatula

symptom

White rot is relatively common in Arrowroot. When white rot occurs in Arrowroot, its stems and leaf bases close to the soil will rot, and then white fungi will grow and spread in the soil, causing the above-ground parts to become sick, wither and die. The white blight appears in the early stage of the disease, gradually turns yellow in the later stage, and finally turns brown. White rot mainly occurs in July and August every year, especially when the soil is too moist or poor.

Prevention and treatment methods

When white rot appears, disinfectants can be added to the soil where the arrowroot is planted for disinfection, and the infected soil and diseased plants must be removed and destroyed before the sclerotia are fully formed. When planting, care must be taken to ensure the air permeability of the plants.

Leaf spot disease of arrowroot

symptom

The main symptom of leaf spot disease is the appearance of small spots on the leaves, which then gradually expand. There is no fixed time of onset of leaf spot disease and it can occur throughout the year. September to October and March of the following year are the peak periods of leaf spot disease, which will cause the leaves of the arrowroot to dry up.

Prevention and treatment methods

Apply appropriate amounts of fertilizer to the soil to enhance the resistance of the plants, and destroy diseased parts and plants in time to prevent reinfection.
