Common diseases and pests of sedge and their control methods

Diseases of sedge

Rust

Sheath rust usually occurs on the surface of leaves, where small raised bags containing rust-colored or even purple-black powdery spores appear. The whole plant of rust infected with rust will become weak.

Rust prevention and control methods

Cut off the diseased leaves and spray with 65% Zineb powder diluted 500 times or copper-containing fungicide.

Sclerotium rolfsii

White rot often occurs in the rainy season. When the disease first occurs, the base of the leaves is covered with white hyphae and the roots and rhizomes rot.

White rot prevention and control methods

Change the pots and soil in time, and sprinkle lime on the contaminated soil to disinfect and sterilize. Usually, you should pay attention to the ventilation and light transmission of the maintenance environment, and the potting soil should be breathable and have good drainage. Severely diseased plants should be burned.

anthrax

It can occur throughout the year, and is more common in hot and rainy seasons. The spots will first spread from the tip of the leaves to the rhizomes. They will be brown at first, and then will gradually expand and increase. In severe cases, the entire plant will die.

Anthracnose control methods

Move the orchid to a well-ventilated and well-lit environment. During the disease period, first spray it with 50% thiophanate-methyl diluted 1000 times. One week later, spray it with 1% Bordeaux mixture. Continue spraying 3-5 times.

Pests of sedge

Scale insects

Scale insects live on plants, causing the leaves to turn yellow and wither. They reproduce fastest in high temperature, high humidity and poor air circulation conditions, and are prone to induce sooty mold disease.

Scale insect control methods

To kill scale insects, you need to choose systemic drugs. Many flower lovers recommend Japan's DX small white medicine. Plants planted in the field can be sprayed with 1500 times diluted omethoate.
