Disease and Pest Control of Rhododendron waxleaf

Disease and Pest Control of Rhododendron waxleaf

Leaf swell

Leaf swelling is a fungal disease that often occurs during the transition between spring and summer and between autumn and winter, and is most serious in late spring. The disease mainly occurs on young leaves and new shoots. After the disease occurs, the leaves will swell and become swollen, and the front of the affected area will appear as a spherical bulge. At the beginning, there will be light red spots, which will then slowly turn brown and white powder will appear on the leaf surface. After that, all the spots will turn dark brown, the entire leaf will swell and curl up, and finally the diseased leaves will wither and fall.

Prevention and control methods: Cut off the diseased leaves as soon as possible before the spots expand and produce white powder. Be careful not to leave the diseased leaves in the potting soil. Keep them all away from the plants and burn them. After removing the diseased leaves, spray the plants with Zineb solution for fungicidal treatment.

Leaf spot

Leaf spot is a common disease of Rhododendron waxleaf, which usually occurs during the humid rainy season. At the beginning of the disease, some small brown spots will appear, and then the spots will gradually increase in size and darken in color, forming dark brown spots. Black spots will also appear on the spots, and finally the leaves will turn yellow, wither and fall off. Leaf spot disease has a great impact on the growth of waxleaf azalea, not only affecting the flowering period of this year, but also affecting the formation of flower buds in the next year.

Prevention and control methods: After discovering leaf swelling, cut off the diseased leaves as soon as possible, and then spray the plants with thiophanate-methyl solution for treatment.

Leaf wax disease

This disease is generally caused by infection caused by aphids. When the disease occurs, a layer of white or light pink waxy substance will appear on the tip of the leaves, causing the leaves to wilt and fall off.

Prevention and control methods: First, clean up all infected leaves, and then spray the plants with copper-containing preparations for treatment. During daily maintenance, you can spray pesticides to control aphids and other similar pests.

Yellowing disease

Waxleaf Azalea prefers a slightly acidic soil environment. If the soil is alkaline, the leaves will turn yellow and die. If the maintenance is not appropriate, too much or too little water, untimely fertilization, insufficient light, etc., any of the above factors will cause the waxleaf Azalea to show chlorosis. To prevent and control chlorosis, you must pay attention to cultivating reasonably according to daily needs.

Military mate bug

This pest often gathers on the back of leaves to feed on sap, which can cause white and yellow spots to appear on the diseased leaves, affecting the growth of the plant. To prevent and control this disease, you can spray pesticides such as chlorpyrifos to kill insects.

Short-palpated mite

The insect usually reproduces in large numbers in summer and feeds on the sap of the plant. After the disease occurs, large pieces of leaves will fall off, greatly affecting the growth of the plant. Similar diseases include sawflies and scale insects. You can use pesticides to kill insects or do manual deworming. Usually, we should pay attention to the ventilation of the environment, spray drugs to kill bacteria in time, and carry out reasonable maintenance for prevention.
