Disease and insect pest control of blood orchid

Disease and insect pest control of blood orchid

1. Sheath Rust

It usually occurs on the upper and lower surfaces of leaves and rarely on the stems as small raised blisters filled with powdery spores that can be yellow, orange, rusty or even purple-black. In fact, rust is not fatal at all and the leaves will not die, but it will cause the plant growth to begin to weaken. The general prevention and control method is to cut off the diseased leaves, and you can also spray some chemical drugs.

2. Sclerotium rot

This disease usually occurs in the rainy season. When the disease first starts, white mycelium will grow on the base of the leaves, and its roots and stems will all rot. Our general method of prevention and control is to remove the infected flower pots and soil, and then sprinkle some lime. If you want to cure the disease completely, you must pay attention to more ventilation and good drainage of the potting soil. If the disease is serious, the diseased plants must be burned.

3. Anthrax

This disease generally occurs throughout the year and is more severe in seasons with higher temperatures or extra humidity. It usually starts from the tip of the leaf and extends toward the rhizome. The color is brown at first, and then it slowly expands and increases. Black spots appear on the leaf surface. In severe cases, the entire plant can die. If you want to prevent and control it, in addition to improving the environmental conditions, you must also spray some medicines during the disease period, generally once every 7 to 10 days, to completely eliminate it.

4. Scale Insects

It is sometimes called the orchid louse. When the temperature is relatively high and the air circulation is poor, this type of pest will reproduce faster, which will cause great damage to the plant, and in severe cases it will kill it. If the number is not large, we can just brush it off manually, but if the number is large, we will need to use some chemical drugs.
