1. How to care for lotus in winter

Winter is the dormant period for water lilies. After winter, all parts of the water lily plant except the lotus root will slowly wither and die. After it withers, you need to prune it and cut off the dead parts. This can prevent them from staying on the plants and wasting nutrients, which will affect the wintering of the lotus roots.

2. How to preserve lotus root

1. Storage indoors: prepare a large vat, add some thin mud into the vat, then bury the lotus root in the mud, and add 15 cm thick sand on top of the mud. Afterwards, place the large vat at a room temperature of 10°C and add appropriate amount of water to keep the sludge in a paste-like state. After the water evaporates, replenish water in time to ensure that there is always a certain amount of water in the water tank.

2. Outdoor storage: When storing outdoors, the lotus root needs to be buried in the soil in the flowerpot. Then cover the top and bottom of the flower pot with a layer of plastic film, and place a 3cm thick layer of straw above and below to protect against the cold. If the weather is very cold, you need to increase the thickness of the straw as appropriate to prevent the lotus roots in the pot from freezing.

3. How to repot the lotus in the second year

In the second year, the water lily needs to be repotted. When repotting, keep the soil dry. First take out the lotus roots buried in the soil. Be careful when taking it so as not to damage the tender shoots on the lotus root. After taking it out, you need to dispose of the old soil, replace it with new soil, and then plant the lotus root in the new soil.
