Can tap water be used to water flowers directly?

Tap water cannot be used directly to water flowers. Tap water contains more chlorides and has a strong pungent smell. Using tap water to water plants directly is not conducive to plant growth, and it is easy to cause yellow leaves, and even affect the flowering and fruiting of plants and cause soil salinization. If you want to use tap water to water flowers, dry it in the sun for two or three days in advance before using it. The tap water temperature after drying is closer to the soil temperature, so the plants can absorb water better and faster to ensure the normal growth of the plants.

What flowers are good to water with tap water

The pH value of tap water is mostly acidic, which is more suitable for plants growing in acidic soil, such as rhododendron, hydrangea, coleus, camellia, gardenia, rose, jasmine, osmanthus, wisteria, etc. Watering plants in acidic soil with tap water after drying will make their roots more easily absorb water to ensure the moisture of the soil, which is very beneficial to both plants and soil.

How to water flowers with tap water

1. Drying

Place the tap water in the sun for 2-3 days to dry, and then use it to water the plants after the chlorine evaporates. You can also add 0.1% ferrous sulfate solution to the tap water after drying and then water the flowers. This can prevent soil alkalinization and make the plants stronger.

2. Boil and cool

Boil tap water and cool it before watering the plants. This will cause the original chloride in the tap water to volatilize or settle, reducing the alkalinity of the water. However, it should be noted that long-term use of cooled boiled water to water plants can easily cause soil hypoxia and affect plant growth. Therefore, pay attention to fertilizing while watering to make the plants flourish.
