What to do if the water tower flower withers

What to do if the water tower flower withers

1. What to do

The water tower flower only blooms once in its lifetime and will gradually wither after the flower fades. This is a relatively normal phenomenon. If you want to continue cultivating it, you need to wait until the divisions grow and then transplant them. In addition, encountering diseases and insect pests may cause it to wither, and at this time reasonable prevention and control is needed.

2. Pest and disease control

1. Root rot: Root rot is a common disease of water tower flowers. The roots of diseased plants will rot, affecting the absorption of water and fertilizer, causing them to wither. After the disease occurs, the plant needs to be removed from the pot, the old soil at the roots removed, and the rotten roots checked and trimmed. Afterwards, you can use carbendazim solution for sterilization and replace the soil with new one for planting.

2. Chlorosis: Chlorosis is usually caused by long-term watering with alkaline water. Dry air and excessive water and fertilizer may also cause the disease. After becoming ill, the leaf tips will gradually wither and need to be cut off. You can use a low concentration of ferrous sulfate solution for daily watering to cure the disease.

3. Scale insects: Scale insects are one of the common pests. They will suck the sap from the water tower flower, causing it to gradually wither. For larvae, you can use chlorpyrifos for prevention and control. Adult insects are difficult to kill by spraying pesticides, and require watering with omethoate solution to kill the insects.

4. Red spider mites: Red spider mites are similar to scale insects, they are very small and they suck sap. You can use omethoate or dicofol to kill insects. In addition, they are usually on the back of the leaves, so you should check them regularly to prevent recurrence.
