What to do if the leaves of green radish turn black and soft in winter

What to do if the leaves of green radish turn black and soft in winter

1. Increase the temperature

Reason: Pothos grows best in a warm environment. The low temperatures in winter often freeze it, causing its leaves to turn black and soft.

Solution: If you want the green radish to safely overwinter, you must ensure that the ambient temperature is above 10℃. There is heating in the north in winter, but in the south it is cold, so you need to put a plastic bag on the top of the plant to keep it warm.

2. Increase Lighting

Reason: The green radish needs a certain amount of light in winter. Long-term lack of light will cause it to grow poorly, causing the leaves to become soft and black.

Solution: Since the temperature is low in winter, it is not suitable to place it outdoors in sunlight. It can be placed on the balcony or windowsill indoors to ensure long-term sunlight, which is conducive to its recovery.

3. Improve ventilation

Reason: In order to keep warm in winter, it is often placed in a closed space, which is not conducive to its breathing and will cause the leaves to turn black and soft.

Solution: Because the air temperature is low in winter, ventilation may freeze the plants, so you have to choose the right time. Generally, the plants should be ventilated when exposed to sunlight at noon. If the temperature is low, you can cover the plants with a bag and poke a few holes in it.

4. Drainage and root pruning

Reason: If you water the green radish too much and water accumulates, it will easily cause the aerial roots to be unable to breathe, thus affecting its growth and causing the leaves to turn black and soft.

Solution: Water evaporates slowly in winter, so do not water too much. If there is water accumulation in the pot, it needs to be drained immediately, and the soil should be loosened appropriately to accelerate evaporation. If stagnant water causes root rot, you need to remove the plant from the pot, cut off the rotten roots and apply wood ash to disinfect it, then replant it with new soil.
