How to grow Chinese cabbage on the balcony

Material preparation

Chinese cabbage seeds: Where to dig the seeds? Of course you can buy them. Don't be fooled by merchants!

Soil: garden soil, leaf mold.

Organic fertilizer: Just buy it at the flower shop.

Planting containers: larger flower pots, foam boxes, and other improved containers at home.

Bamboo skewers: used when planting the bok choy.

Watering can: used for watering, a must-have for flower lovers at home!

Small rake: used to loosen the soil, medium-sized one, can be used for anything you plant!

Variety selection

All cabbage varieties can be grown in pots, but when purchasing, do not choose hybrid varieties, which are difficult to maintain and easily infected by diseases.

Selection of planting soil

The soil should be loose, breathable and well-drained. Usually garden soil, leaf mold and organic fertilizer are mixed in a ratio of 2:1:1 .

Planting container

When planting Chinese cabbage, you should use shallow flower pots, wooden tubs, or foam boxes. The depth of the container should be 15 to 20 cm. Or you can directly build a planting trough with bricks on the balcony for easy operation in the future.

Sowing and seedling raising

Soak the seeds in water at 50-55 °C for 15 minutes, and then soak them in water at room temperature for 6-8 hours.

During the seed soaking process, pour the nutrient soil into the container, level it, water it thoroughly with a watering can, and set it aside for later use.

After the seeds are soaked, sprinkle them evenly on the soil surface and cover them with 1 cm of fine soil. Planting completed.

Entering the pelvis

Sow evenly; if the seedlings are too dense, they need to be transplanted. When the seedlings grow 3 to 4 leaves, they can be transplanted into pots.

Wash the flower pots (or other breathable containers), place tiles on the bottom, and pour soil on them. Dig a 5-7 cm deep hole at an interval of 10 cm.

Use a bamboo stick to dig out the cabbage and plant it in the dug hole. Stretch the roots so that they point vertically downward, straighten the plant, and bury it.

Water thoroughly after planting.

Daily Management

Light conditions: Chinese cabbage likes a warm and humid environment. When caring for it, place it in a sunny place on the balcony.

Temperature and humidity conditions: Pay attention to moisture retention and heat preservation after transplanting, and lower the temperature appropriately after germination.

Fertilization management: Water and fertilize 2 to 3 times during the growing period, mainly with compound fertilizer.

Harvesting and eating: Under suitable environment, it can be picked and eaten 20 to 40 days after sowing.
