How to grow jade plant more vigorously in summer?

Many people like to grow jade plants in their homes, and the plant is favored for its upright, sturdy trunk and thick, shiny green leaves. As a foliage plant, jade plant has a very high ornamental value. Its leaves are not only thick but also bright in color, adding a touch of natural beauty to the home environment. It is a hot summer now, so how can we grow jade plants more vigorously in summer?

1. Lighting management

Jade tree is a plant that grows all year round and only goes dormant when the temperature drops in winter. Although it does not fear high temperatures, strong summer sunlight may harm its fleshy leaves. Therefore, starting from May, when the sunlight becomes particularly strong, it is necessary to provide shade measures for the jade tree to avoid direct sunlight at noon. In the flower shed, the shade net is usually used around 11 a.m. to block about 50% of the light, and is put away at 3 p.m. when the sunlight is weaker. At home, if there is no shade, you can allow it to receive light before 11 am. As long as you make sure the leaves are not sunburned, it can carry out effective photosynthesis and promote growth.

2. Water supply

Summer is the growing season for jade trees. Due to the high temperature, the soil tends to dry out, so sufficient water is needed. Avoid root drying or leaf wilting due to lack of water, which will affect the growth of new leaves. Normally, when the soil in the pot is almost dry, it should be watered thoroughly in time. Although short-term drought will not have much impact on jade plants, frequent droughts can cause damage to the root system, so maintain an appropriate watering frequency.

3. Reasonable fertilization

Jade plants growing in summer need fertilizer support. In home maintenance, if no fertilizer is applied, the nutrients in the soil will be insufficient and the growth of jade plant will be limited. It is recommended to use a multi-element fertilizer with a balanced nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium, such as a universal nutrient solution, and apply it once a month, being careful not to overdose. In addition, you can sprinkle some sheep manure or multi-element slow-release fertilizer on the surface of the potting soil. Sheep manure helps to loosen the soil. With regular watering, nutrients will gradually penetrate into the soil and promote root development.

4. Ventilation conditions

The summer is hot and humid. If the ventilation is poor, it is easy to cause root rot or leaf rot of jade plants, especially for succulents such as jade plants . Therefore, try to ensure good ventilation conditions. You can place it in a well-ventilated place outdoors, or near a window indoors. If it is an enclosed balcony and lacks natural ventilation, you can use an electric fan regularly, especially after watering, to blow air on the surface of the potting soil for a few hours to keep the soil slightly moist and avoid root and leaf diseases.

In short, it is very important to follow these principles when caring for jade plants in summer. Only when these principles are followed can the jade plants grow normally in the home environment, and the new leaves will be thicker and the branches more luxuriant.
