Balcony strawberry planting method

Balcony strawberry planting method

Step 1: Prepare Materials

Seedlings: All strawberries can be grown in pots. The better varieties include all-season strawberry, Baojiao Early, and European All-season Red. Seedlings can be purchased directly at the flower market.

Soil: Strawberry is a fertilizer-loving plant. When preparing the soil, apply enough base fertilizer (use organic fertilizer and less chemical fertilizer). The nutrient soil is a mixture of garden soil and peat ash in equal proportions, with a small amount of animal manure added.

Container: Select a container based on the size of the space. The strawberry plant is small, so a 20 cm diameter flowerpot is sufficient, with one plant per pot. If you want to plant a large number of plants, you can use a long pot, with multiple plants in one pot. Ceramic basins are usually used, which have better ventilation and drainage.

Step 2: Planting

First, fill the pot with nutrient soil. Don’t fill it too full. Keep it 3 to 4 cm away from the edge of the pot. Water it thoroughly and place it in a cool place for 1 to 2 days.

Choose healthy strawberry seedlings, cut off the damaged roots and old leaves, leaving 2 to 3 small leaves.

Dig a few small holes in the pot, 3 to 5 cm. Plant the seedlings, stretch the roots, straighten the plants, and flatten the soil.

After planting, water the plants in a small amount and cover them with a plastic bag to reduce water evaporation and ensure that the humidity in the pot meets the requirements for strawberry growth.

Step 3: Daily Management

Temperature management: The suitable temperature for strawberry growth is 15~30℃. The roots grow normally in an environment of 15~20℃. The temperature should be kept at 15~20℃ during the flowering and fruiting period.

Water management: After planting strawberries, water them frequently to keep the soil moist.

Fertilization management: Potted strawberries are mainly fed with organic fertilizer and water. You can use the attached bean cake to soak in water and water it once every 7 days.

Pruning: During the cultivation process, if old leaves turn yellow, they should be pruned off in time. Vines will grow during the growth process and they need to be removed. There are many small plants on the vine that can be cut off and replanted.

Step 4: Repotting

Strawberries begin to degenerate after two years, so after one year of planting, change to a larger pot and plant new seedlings at two o'clock.

Note:

Choose morning or evening for watering.

During flowering, the air humidity should not be too high to affect fruit setting.

Balcony potted plants can be planted all year round, but the survival rate is highest from September to October.
