How to make a bonsai

Seed source

Any method can be used to select seedlings, but most tree-planting families purchase mature seedlings directly from flower shops, which has a higher survival rate. But there are a few who like to cultivate from seeds. I would like to introduce them to you first. For detailed methods, please see another article compiled by me: What are the propagation methods of Wisteria?

Basin

After the seedlings are prepared, they should be potted, usually in February or March, before the wisteria leaves grow.

Potting soil is usually a combination of fertile, well-drained leaf mold and ordinary soil. Of course, you can also buy professional potting soil for flowers.

The flower pots should be deeper purple clay pots, which come in various shapes and can be chosen according to personal preference.

modeling

This is the most important step, and all the previous steps are preparation. If the previous few steps are the process of a girl putting on makeup before going out, the styling is equivalent to showing off on the street, and whether it is good or not depends entirely on the evaluation of passers-by. In short, the principle of pruning should be simple and natural.

The branches should be staggered up and down, but the layers should be fewer rather than more, avoiding monotony and making the plant look fuller.

There are many forms of bonsai: such as curved trunk or slanted trunk (the trunk of the bonsai grows obliquely to one side), weeping branch (the trunk is short and grows vertically) and stone attached (the trunk grows attached to a small rockery). In my personal opinion, the oblique dry type looks better, has lower cost and is easier to maintain!

Post-maintenance

To grow a pot of wisteria well, you also need to know how to maintain it. Water less, fertilize more, prune frequently, and repot early!

Water less

Wisteria absorbs water very well and needs a lot of water to grow. But make sure the soil in the pot is dry and not wet. Too wet soil is not conducive to flowering. When watering, adhere to the principle of not watering until the soil is dry, and when you do, water thoroughly. Especially in August, when flower buds appear on the plants, watering should be reduced, and normal watering should be resumed in September.

Apply more fertilizer

Applying small amounts of fertilizer frequently is an important measure to ensure that Wisteria flowers grow luxuriantly. During the growing period of wisteria, you can combine watering with applying cake fertilizer once every 15 days, but stop fertilizing between July and August. Increase phosphorus fertilizer appropriately before flowering.

Prune frequently

If you want the potted wisteria to grow lush and leafy, you should promptly remove the denser buds when new buds grow in spring. New branches that are too long should be pruned in time, usually not exceeding 15 cm. In normal times, regularly observe and prune diseased and weak branches, even during the winter dormancy period. In September, the leaves of wisteria will age and droop. It is necessary to remove the old leaves in time to promote the germination of new leaves!

Early repotting

Repotting should be done as early as possible, and try to do it in early spring when the buds sprout, and repot every 2 to 3 years.
