Trumpet creeper bonsai production and maintenance

Trumpet creeper bonsai production and maintenance

How to make bonsai of trumpet creeper

The trumpet creeper plant should be heavily pruned in early spring, generally retaining about 40 cm of the lower part of the plant, and then transplanted into the prepared flowerpot with soil.

The plants for potting can generally be purchased directly from the flower market. They are relatively sturdy and suitable plants for potting, or they can be planted by yourself. However, if you plant the trumpet creeper seedlings directly in pots, their growth will be relatively slow. Therefore, when making trumpet creeper bonsai, it is best to plant the trumpet creeper plants in the ground for 3 or 4 years, and then transplant them when the stems of the plants are relatively thick.

How to shape trumpet creeper bonsai

When shaping bonsai, there are generally three methods that can be used.

Frame for flower pots

Build a flower stand on the trumpet creeper pot and let the branches of the trumpet creeper grow around the stand.

The advantage of this method is that it is easy to repot and change soil, prune and move at will, but it has the disadvantages of poor ventilation and light transmission, and the leaves easily turn yellow.

Pull rope

Place the trumpet creeper bonsai on an open balcony and pull it with ropes. This will allow the trumpet creeper plant to climb upward and some vines to droop naturally, looking very elegant.

The advantage is that it is very ornamental, but it is not easy to repot and turn the soil, and it is also difficult to prune.

Modeling bonsai

The bonsai of Trumpet Creeper can be made into a stump-style bonsai or a cliff-style bonsai and placed on balconies and other places, which is also very ornamental.

Trumpet creeper bonsai maintenance and management

A very important point in the maintenance of trumpet creeper bonsai is pruning. The main purpose of pruning is to beautify the plant shape and trim the trumpet creeper bonsai into a shape that you personally like. You can also prune off some dead branches and diseased branches in time to reduce pests and diseases and enable it to grow better.

Bonsai can be placed on the balcony, but attention should be paid to the light. It cannot be hidden for a long time. It is best not to place it on a closed balcony or a north balcony. Attention should be paid to ventilation.
