How to grow pitcher plants hydroponically

Can it be hydroponically grown?

Nepenthes can be grown hydroponically, but are hydroponics and water culture the same concept? Hydroponics refers to the cultivation of roots in a water environment. Hydroponics refers to maintenance in water, and all the nutrients for plant growth are obtained from water.

Nepenthes does not require too much fertilizer to grow. Simple fertilization is needed, and most of the remaining nutrients can be obtained from the soil. In a hydroponic environment, nutrient solution should be used and the water should be changed frequently. Poor maintenance will cause the death of the plant. However, if you have absolute confidence in yourself and dare to challenge your patience, you can give it a try.

Hydroponics Method

Hydroponics Preparation Materials

1. The vase must be beautiful. The biggest function of hydroponics is to decorate the room. Try to choose a beautiful transparent glass bottle.

2. Sharp scissors. If the scissors are not sharp, it will be difficult to operate.

3. Nepenthes with good growth

4. Other materials: culture solution, rooting agent, clean water, wire mesh, colored stones

Hydroponics steps

First, prepare the culture medium. Pour 2/3 of water into the bottle, add a few drops of culture solution, and set aside.

Cut the branches of mature plants and retain the buds on the branches to make it easier for new branches to grow. Don't leave too many leaves, 1 to 2 will be enough.

Apply rooting agent to the cut of the branch, then place the branch in water, being careful not to let the leaves get soaked in water to avoid contaminating the water.

Put a few colored stones in the bottle to increase the effect.

Secure the branches with wire mesh to keep them upright.

After completing the above five steps, hydroponics has been completed and all that remains is maintenance. In the early stage, change the water every 3 days. After the roots have taken shape, change the water once a week or so, and add nutrient solution each time you change the water.

Precautions for hydroponic pitcher plants

The water temperature should be suitable, equivalent to room temperature.

The culture medium should be selected carefully. Don't be afraid of the trouble and just pick it randomly. Try to make sure it contains all the mineral elements. (Of course, this is not up to you to decide!)

After hydroponics, change the water frequently to prevent root rot.

The culture solution should be replaced frequently. Try not to change the brand of culture solution during maintenance. If the plant has adapted to a certain environment, do not change it at will.
