How to hydroponically cultivate Anthurium

How to hydroponically cultivate Anthurium

step

Anthurium can be grown in soil or hydroponically. Hydroponically growing Anthurium is simple and can be done in just a few steps.

Remove from the basin

Remove the soil-grown plants from the pots, clean off the old soil at the roots, and wash them with clean water. Cut away old, rotten roots.

Colonization

Secure the plants in the planting basket to secure them. Then add a small amount of gravel to the hydroponic container. If you choose a narrow-mouth bottle for ordinary hydroponics, you can directly fix it with stones without using a planting basket.

Add water

Make sure there is sufficient water in the hydroponic container. Changing from soil cultivation to hydroponics requires a certain adaptation process, so there should be a certain distance between the roots and the water to allow the roots to breathe. Make sure that 1/3 of the roots are in the water.

Maintenance

temperature

The growth temperature of hydroponic Anthurium is 5℃-30℃, and it can grow normally within this range. Place the plant in a bright location without direct sunlight. Do not expose to direct sunlight.

Water changes

Moss will easily grow on the inner wall of the container for too long, which will affect the appearance of the root system and consume oxygen in the water. So change the water frequently and clean the inner wall.

When changing the water, you should first use clean water to wash away the mucus on the roots of the flowers and cut off old and rotten roots. And wash off the moss on the utensils and roots. Each time you change the water, the water level should be enough to submerge 1/2-2/3 of the root system, and the remaining roots should be left exposed to the air.

Fertilization

To prevent the leaves from drying out, during daily care, you should spray the leaves with clean water to keep them moisturized. It is best to spray foliar fertilizer once a week, which can not only provide nutrients to the leaves and increase their gloss, but also resist low temperatures in winter.

During the budding period of Anthurium, use foliage plant nutrient solution and spray the leaves 2 to 3 times to promote flowering.

Frequently asked questions

Leaves drooping

Some flower lovers reported that the leaves of the hydroponic anthuriums in their home drooped after just one night.

There are several measures that can be taken to address this situation. Stay away from the air conditioner. It’s summer now and the air conditioner is often turned on indoors, but white calla lilies cannot tolerate low temperatures. In addition, you should expose your hair to diffuse light rather than direct sunlight. When changing the water, use tap water that has been left to dry for 1-2 days.

Leaves turning yellow

If the leaves of the hydroponic white calla lily start to turn yellow from the roots, the first thing to do is to clean the roots and change the water for new cultivation. Note that you do not need to wash the roots with your hands. Rinse directly with water to avoid damaging the roots.

It is necessary to control the light exposure. It should not be placed in a dark environment for a long time, nor should it be placed directly under strong light.

Is it okay to change the water frequently?

Change the water for hydroponic anthuriums about once every 7 days in summer and once every 10-15 days in winter. Just add a few drops of nutrient solution specifically for hydroponic flowers (the concentration of the nutrient solution should be prepared according to the instructions).

When changing water, do not use tap water directly. It should be left to air in advance before use.
