Hydroponic method of lucky bamboo

Pruning roots and leaves

Before hydroponics, cut off the leaves at the base. The specific size will depend on the size of the container. Just remove the leaves below the bottle mouth. In addition, use scissors or a knife to cut off a part of the root at an angle. This will allow the lucky bamboo to absorb water better, and try to keep the cut smooth.

Water volume control and water selection

It is best to use well water or purified water for hydroponically growing lucky bamboo. If tap water is used, it is best to store it for one day before use.

Before hydroponics, add water to the vase. The water should reach 1/3 of the vase, not more than 2/3, so as not to add too much water and affect the root breathing.

Entering the water

Place the processed lucky bamboo cuttings into the water and straighten them.

Maintenance of hydroponic lucky bamboo

Change water frequently

Change the water frequently before rooting, generally change it completely every 3 to 4 days. Be careful not to move the lucky bamboo in the water at will during this period, and don't apply fertilizer. After about 10 to 15 days, you can see silvery white roots emerging from the stems.

After the roots have grown, do not change the water completely. Change half of the water every 10 days. During this period, add water if you see that the water in the bottle evaporates less.

Control indoor temperature

Lucky bamboo is suitable for growing between 16 and 26 degrees Celsius. Cold weather can easily cause the plant to die. In winter, do not place it in cold places such as balconies or near windows. Be careful not to let the water freeze. Take anti-freeze measures if necessary.

Ensure adequate lighting

Water-grown lucky bamboo is usually placed indoors. It does not require much sunlight, but a little scattered light is enough. However, if it is not exposed to sunlight at all, the leaves will turn yellow and grow poorly. Therefore, the plant should be placed in a bright and ventilated place so that it can receive sufficient light.

Fertilize once a month

For lucky bamboo grown in water, we usually ignore fertilization, but in fact fertilization can make the plant grow better. Usually, water-cultured lucky bamboo should be fertilized once a month. You can go to the flower market to buy professional nutrient solution or professional organic fertilizer, or add a few drops of vitamin C1 when changing the water.
