How to care for newly bought marigolds

How to care for newly bought marigolds

1. Soil

If the soil quality is not good enough when you first buy it, you can change the pot and soil. Both acidic and alkaline soils are suitable for growing marigolds, and it can grow in slightly acidic to slightly alkaline soils. When repotting, you should choose suitable soil. It is best to choose fertile, well-drained sandy loam. You can use a clay pot with good air permeability. Be sure not to damage the root system when repotting. You can cut off the damaged roots.

2. Temperature

Marigold likes a warm environment very much. When you first bring it home, it is best to give it an indoor temperature of 15-20℃. The temperature in winter should not be lower than 5℃, and in summer it should not be higher than 3℃. If the temperature is not properly controlled it may extend its life cycle.

3. Watering

Don't rush to water it when you just buy it. Although it likes a humid environment, you should avoid water accumulation at the roots. But during the growth period, it must be provided with sufficient water. During the hottest time of summer, water it twice a day, and when the temperature is lower in winter, water it once every four or five days.

4. Lighting

Don't expose it to too strong sunlight when you just bring it home. Give it mild light to adapt to the environment. If there is insufficient light, its stems and leaves may become soft and spindly, resulting in fewer and smaller flowers. It is sensitive to light, so you can use short-day lighting and less exposure to sunlight to promote early flowering.

5. Fertilization

You cannot apply fertilizer when you just buy it, but marigold does need fertilizer and needs to be used to provide nutrients. Try to use nitrogen fertilizer. Fertilizing once a month can meet its growth needs. First sprinkle the fertilizer on top, then water it thoroughly so that the fertilizer can fully penetrate into the root system of the chrysanthemum along with the water.
