How to take care of newly bought primroses

How to take care of newly bought primroses

1. Soil

If the soil in the pot is too hard or compacted, do not use it and change the pot and soil in time. Mix garden soil with leaf mold and add some decomposed organic fertilizer. It is best to use slightly acidic soil. This kind of planting soil is loose and fertile, which is conducive to root development.

2. Environment

Primroses like warm environments and mild sunshine. Don't place it in direct sunlight, as this may cause its leaves to turn yellow. Get more sunlight in autumn and winter. However, it cannot survive the winter in sub-zero temperatures, and the summer temperature cannot be too high, so cooling must be done in time.

3. Watering

Primroses like a humid environment, but they cannot be watered frequently. Drainage must be done well to avoid waterlogging and root rot. It is best to water once in the morning and once in the evening in summer. In other seasons, water when the soil is dry, and water thoroughly. It is best to spray some water around it or on the leaves frequently to maintain the surrounding air humidity and prevent the problem of leaf tips drying out.

4. Fertilization

You can start fertilizing about 10 days after you buy it. You can use a dilute fertilizer solution that combines nitrogen and phosphorus, which is convenient and clean. Fertilize once a week during the growing season, using more nitrogen fertilizer to promote the growth of branches and leaves. You can add some decomposed organic fertilizer as base fertilizer when repotting to improve soil fertility.

5. Pests and diseases

It is prone to damping-off disease during the seedling stage, which may cause the seedlings to rot and die. Once a problem occurs, prevention and control measures must be taken immediately. You can mix a small amount of dichlorodiphenyltrichloroethane powder with 40 times the amount of fine sand and put it into the potting soil for treatment.
