The language and legend of the flower of Deutzia

The flower language and origin of the name of the Deutzia

The flower language of Deutzia is nobility.

There is actually a little story about the name of the Deutzia odorata. Deutzia odorata is a flower native to China and is widely distributed in our country. However, in the beginning, Westerners first came into contact with this flower in Japan, and they mistakenly believed that the Deutzia was native to Japan.

In Japan, Deutzia odorata is highly respected. They call it Yamabuki, because in ancient Japanese, bright rich yellow is the color of Yamabuki.

The legend of the kerria

The legend about Deutzia odorata is actually an ancient Japanese legend. This legend happened during the shogunate period in Japan and is related to Ota Dokan.

Dokan Ota is known as the Father of Edo. He was the builder of Edo. It is said that when he was young, he went out hunting and encountered a rainstorm on the way. He came to a farmer's house and wanted to borrow a straw raincoat, but the farmer did not give him a straw raincoat, but gave him a Deutzi flower.

Ota Michikan felt puzzled and a little angry. He said he didn't want the flowers and left angrily. When he returned home, Jiujiang told his retainers about this incident. One of the retainers, who was very knowledgeable, said that there was a waka poem in "Goshiyishu" that said the flowers were blooming romantically and brightly, but the sad thing was that there was not even a straw raincoat. The girl said this as a euphemism, saying that she didn't have a raincoat at home. Ota Dokan felt ashamed of his ignorance and continued to improve his skills in waka.

There seems to be no relationship between the sedge and the Deutzia flower, but in Japanese, the pronunciations of the Deutzi seeds and the sedge are somewhat similar.
