How to take care of the newly bought Brazilian iron

How to take care of the newly bought Brazilian iron

1. Soil

In order to make the Brazilian iron plant grow better, you need to change the soil after buying it. It is best to use a mixture of garden soil, leaf mold and river sand. The planting soil prepared in this way is well-ventilated and rich in humus.

2. Environment

In order to maintain its beauty, it is necessary to avoid direct sunlight and it is best to place it in a living room or other place with diffuse light. Strong light conditions will darken the leaves and may also cause the texture on the leaf surface to disappear. It is best to ensure that it has a warm and comfortable environment with not too much temperature difference. An environment of around 20℃ is most suitable. In winter, you need to take good insulation measures, as temperatures below 5℃ may cause frostbite.

3. Watering

If drainage is done well, you don't have to worry too much about water accumulation. The frequency of watering does not need to be too high, once every 2-3 days is enough, and the soil in the pot must be kept moist. In winter, control the amount of watering to keep the pot dry and semi-humid. It is necessary to spray water on it in time to increase the surrounding air humidity and the moisture of the leaves, which is beneficial to its growth.

4. Fertilization

When fertilizing it, organic fertilizer should be buried at the bottom or on the edge of the pot. Using liquid fertilizer once every 20 days or so will have better results. Be careful not to apply too much fertilizer. Stop fertilizing in winter when it enters a dormant period to prevent root burn.

5. Iron Supplement

If the leaves of a newly purchased Brazilian iron plant or one that is under normal management turn yellow, it may be due to a lack of iron. At this point, trim off any completely yellow leaves and use some dilute ferrous sulfate solution in the soil.
