The efficacy and function of Lithospermum officinale

The efficacy and function of Lithospermum officinale

1. Antibacterial and antiviral

Lithospermum officinale contains a variety of lithospermum quinone derivatives, which have a strong inhibitory effect on many bacilli (such as Escherichia coli) and cocci (hemolytic Streptococcus). In addition, it also has an inhibitory effect on viruses such as parainfluenza virus. Therefore, it can be used to relieve some diseases caused by bacteria and viruses.

2. Contraception

Lithospermum officinale has a certain inhibitory effect on the growth of the uterus and ovaries. Animal experiments have shown that the weight of the ovaries and uterus of individuals who have consumed food containing comfrey ingredients for a long time is significantly lower than that of the control group, which indicates that comfrey can affect the development of female reproductive organs. In addition, the components extracted and separated from comfrey can cause large-scale death of the villi cells on the placenta, thereby achieving a contraceptive effect.

3. Reduce swelling and clear away heat

Lithospermum officinale is cold in nature and has the effect of clearing away dryness and heat in the body, cooling blood and reducing swelling. Therefore, it can be used to treat swelling of some organs.

4. Detoxification and freckle removal

Lithospermum officinale also has the effect of detoxification and freckle removal, and can be used to treat symptoms such as skin spots.
