How to prune Kalanchoe

How to prune Kalanchoe

1. Pinching and topping

During the growing season, the Kalanchoe needs to be pinched and topped to control the size of the plant. When it grows to about 6 cm and has 4-5 leaves, it can be pinched for the first time. When the plant grows to 12 cm in height, it should be pinched. This can control the height of the plant and promote flowering.

2. Appropriate bud thinning

If you want to ensure the flowering quality of Kalanchoe and make it bloom more abundantly, you need to thin the buds appropriately. For newly grown branches, only one flower bud is retained, and 2-3 can be retained on old branches. This can not only ensure the number of flowers, but also make the flowers larger and more colorful. In addition, when thinning the buds, make sure that the buds are evenly distributed so that they look better.

3. Pruning after flowering

The Kalanchoe should be pruned after the flowers fade. Pick off the dead flowers to avoid wasting water and nutrients. At the same time, some old branches should be properly pruned to promote the growth of new branches.

4. Prune dead branches

Also pay attention to pruning the Kalanchoe on a daily basis. Dead and weak branches should be cut off in time. If the branches are too dense, proper pruning can increase internal light transmission and ventilation, which is more beneficial to the growth of the plant and can also prevent diseases and pests.
