How to grow daylilies

How to grow daylilies

soil

Daylilies are strong and adaptable. They are not very selective about soil and can grow in arid, humid and poor soils. However, they grow poorly and have small and few flowers. They prefer moist soil that is rich in humus and has good drainage.

Watering

If the weather is not very dry during the entire growth and development period, watering is generally not necessary. However, if the soil does not have enough moisture after watering in spring, it will affect the number of flowers. For this reason, in spring drought areas, watering should be done in time in spring, and sufficient water should be supplied during the growing season to keep the soil loose and moist, otherwise it will affect the normal flowering of the plants and the quality of the flowers.

Fertilization

Timely top dressing starting from the second year of planting will have a greater impact on flowering that year. It is best to apply liquid fertilizer three times throughout the year. The first time is when the new shoots grow to about 10 cm, the second time is when the flower stalks are cut, and the third time is ten days after flowering.

Pests and diseases

Common diseases include leaf spot, leaf blight, rust, anthracnose and stem blight, etc. The main insect pests are red spider mites, aphids, thrips, leaf miners, etc., which can be controlled by timely use of pesticides. Diseases can be controlled by spraying 800 times of 75% Benomyl diluted, and insect pests can be controlled by spraying 3000 times of Aimeile.
