Potted cultivation methods and precautions for red safflower

Control light and temperature

After planting the Salvia officinalis, place it in a cool place for 3 days to allow the seedlings to grow slowly. Then place it in the sun to ensure adequate light. In order to facilitate the control of light intensity, a recommended trellis can be built above the flower pot. When the light is too strong, especially at noon in summer, provide 50% shade. Once the temperature drops, plastic film needs to be covered for proper insulation. This can usually be done at night or on rainy days.

Maintain moisture and humidity

Amaranthus likes a humid environment and should be sprayed with water once a day, except on rainy days. When watering, the difference between ground temperature and water temperature should not exceed 5°C. When the temperature is high, spray water into the surrounding environment frequently to lower the temperature and increase the air humidity. Clean the branches and leaves regularly to improve photosynthesis, clean them once every 15 to 20 days.

Foliar fertilization is the main method

Soil provides an important guarantee for the growth and development of flowers, but it does not guarantee the healthy growth of the plants. It is far from enough to rely solely on the water, fertilizer and air in the soil. Foliar fertilizer is also needed. The specific method is as follows:

One week after potting, apply foliar fertilizer. Spray once a day for the next three days. The fertilizer to be chosen is a mixture of urea, potassium dihydrogen phosphate and a small amount of superphosphate. The spraying time is chosen in the early morning and evening.

Subsequent maintenance will combine watering and fertilizing, and foliar fertilization should be performed 8 to 12 hours after watering. Note that ring application can be done on windy days or when the sunlight is strong.

Controlling flowering date

The flowering time will be different if the seeds are sown in different seasons. Sow in spring and bloom in autumn; sow in the greenhouse in autumn and bloom in April or May of the following year. During flowering, the flowering period can be controlled by:

Cutting off the branches with flower buds in time can appropriately postpone the flowering period.

After each flower fades, remove the remaining flowers in time and strengthen water and fertilizer management. The impatiens can then sprout branches and bloom again, extending the flowering period.

Timely pruning and topping

The potted salvia needs to be topped three times after transplanting to inhibit its growth and promote the germination of side buds. The plants grown in this way are short and strong, with more flower heads.
