How to plant Polygonatum odoratum

How to plant Polygonatum odoratum

There are two main ways to plant Polygonatum odoratum: sowing and division. Among them, the division method is more stable. Here we mainly introduce the division (rhizome) planting method of Polygonatum odoratum.

Environmental requirements

The characteristics of Polygonatum odoratum are cold-resistance, shade-resistance and moisture-resistance, and it does not like wind and direct sunlight.

Since Polygonatum odoratum prefers a cool climate, it is best to plant it in a place that is sheltered from the wind and facing the sun. At the same time, attention should be paid to the drainage of the flowerpot and the flower soil should be fertile and loose sandy loam.

Planting method

Autumn is the best time to plant Polygonatum odoratum, and it will sprout in March or April of the following year.

The rhizome of Polygonatum odoratum has a relatively long survival time, up to 3-4 years, after which it will begin to rot.

The division planting of Polygonatum odoratum mainly relies on rhizomes, which are cut into small sections about 3 to 7 cm long and planted in 6 cm deep flower soil.

The growth is slow from germination to seedlings. When the temperature rises in early summer, the stems and leaves will grow rapidly, and flower buds and flowers will appear.

Usually in the hot season of July, the root system of Polygonatum odoratum will grow faster and the growth of the above-ground part will slow down.

Maintenance methods

It can be planted in spring and autumn.

Each section of the rhizome used for planting must have more than 2 nodes.

After planting, water thoroughly and place in a cool place.

Polygonatum odoratum needs to be fertilized 2 to 3 times during its growth period.

It is recommended to use organic fertilizer.
