Lotus bamboo cultivation methods and precautions

Lotus bamboo cultivation methods and precautions

Farming methods

soil

It is suitable for growing in well-drained sandy soil, semi-silt and alluvial clay.

Watering

During the peak growth period from May to September, water frequently to keep the soil moist, rather wet than dry, but not waterlogged otherwise the roots will easily rot. During high temperature periods, you should also spray the leaves and the ground with water frequently to increase air humidity, and reduce watering appropriately in autumn and winter.

Fertilization

Apply liquid fertilizer 1-2 times a month to the lotus bamboo during its growth period to make the leaves dark green and lush. Stop fertilizing in winter.
Lotus bamboo is highly adaptable and can grow well in full sunlight, semi-darkness and shade. It likes high temperature, high humidity and plenty of sunshine. It likes sandy soil, avoids waterlogging and is drought-resistant.

Light and temperature

The suitable growth temperature is 20-28℃, and it can withstand low temperatures of 2-3℃, but it must be protected from frost in winter. The hot and humid seasons of summer and autumn are very beneficial to the growth of lotus bamboo and are the best period for its growth. It does not have strict requirements on light and is suitable for growing under bright scattered light. Excessive light and exposure to the sun can cause the leaves to turn yellow, fade to green, and grow slowly.

Reproduction method

In spring, cut stems into 5 cm to 10 cm leafless nodes, or cut the base tips as they are prone to drying up. The branches with stem tips that have been partially grown in the shade indoors for a long time should be inserted into clean coarse river sand, watered thoroughly, covered with plastic bags to keep the substrate moist, and placed in a bright place indoors. They will take root in about 25 days. Or you can insert the cut branches into water, and they will take root in about half a month at 25℃.

Precautions

Disease control

Lotus bamboo is commonly damaged by leaf spot disease, stem rot and root rot, which can be sprayed multiple times with 100 times Bordeaux liquid. Common insect pests of lotus bamboo include thrips and scale insects. Spray with 1000 times diluted 50% oxydemeton-methyl emulsifiable concentrate.

Yellowing leaves

The leaves of lotus bamboo will turn yellow due to lack of fertilizer, lack of light or burns. Everyone needs to be careful when breeding.
