Breeding methods and precautions of dogtail red

How to cultivate dogtail red

Temperature and light

Dogtail red likes a warm environment, is not cold-resistant and requires plenty of sunlight. The suitable temperature for its growth is between 20℃ and 30℃. Because it is not cold-resistant, the wintering temperature cannot be lower than 15℃. If it is lower than 10℃, frost damage will occur, and the leaves will turn yellow or even fall off.

Dogtail Red likes plenty of sunlight and needs to be given sufficient direct light every day. If there is insufficient light, it will cause the Dogtail Red plant to grow too tall. When the sun is strong in summer, shade is needed.

Water and fertilizer management

In terms of water and fertilizer, there is still a great demand for dogtail red. Dogtail Red is not drought-tolerant, so it must have sufficient water. During the growing season, keep the soil moist and water frequently. When the temperature is high in summer, the amount of watering should be increased appropriately, and watering needs to be controlled in winter. In order to maintain a high air humidity, the dogtail red plants need to be sprayed with water frequently.

During the growing period, you need to pay attention to fertilization. Apply decomposed thin liquid fertilizer or potassium-containing fertilizer once a week to promote flowering.

Pot soil

Dogtail red likes fertile soil and needs to be repotted and the soil changed in spring every year. Dig out the stems of the plants, remove excess soil, replace with new soil and water thoroughly, place in a cool place for a week and then maintain normally.

Reproduction method

The main method of propagation of Dogtail Red is cutting propagation, which is relatively rapid.

Precautions for breeding of dogtail red

prune

During the growth of Dogtail Red, in order to make its plant beautiful and grow healthily, it needs to be pruned frequently. Because Dogtail Red grows quickly, it needs regular pruning and pinching to promote more branches and control the plant shape. Making the plant fuller, it is generally necessary to cut off dense branches and dead and diseased branches to promote its healthy growth.

Pest control

Common diseases and pests of Red Dogtail include aphids and red spider mites.
