How to promote germination of orchids in spring

How to promote germination of orchids in spring

1. Provide nutrition

If you want the orchid to grow more new shoots in the spring, you should provide it with sufficient nutrients. Specifically, before it sprouts in spring, replace the planting material with new planting material that is fertile, soft and breathable. Then, as it grows, apply some compound fertilizer rich in nitrogen to it in a timely manner. This will stimulate it to grow new shoots.

2. Carry out division

If your orchid plant is too large, it will grow more slowly and will be less likely to produce new growth. If the orchid is removed from the pot and divided into several sub-plants before it sprouts, and then cultivated separately, all the sub-plants will have the possibility of growing new buds. Overall, the total number of new shoots grown on all the sub-plants after division will be much greater than the total number of new shoots grown on an old plant without division.

3. Hormones to promote budding

There are some hormones that can stimulate the cell division and growth of orchids, thereby prompting it to grow more new shoots. In the spring, treating the orchid plants with these hormones can also help increase the number of new shoots it grows.

4. Moderate pruning

For orchids that bloom in spring, cutting off the remaining flowers on the plants in time after their flowers wither can also help the plants save a lot of nutrients. In this way, when it sprouts, the plant will have more nutrients to use for germination, and thus grow more buds.
