Reasons and remedies for Schefflera to lose leaves

Schefflera arborvitae, also known as Schefflera arborvitae and the auspicious tree, is an evergreen tree native to the tropics. The leaves of Schefflera are evergreen and beautiful in appearance. It is an ideal indoor foliage plant. Many people like to grow it, but it is easy to lose leaves when growing it. Here we talk about the reasons why Schefflera loses leaves and the remedies.

1. Improper lighting

Semi-shade is the most suitable growing environment for Schefflera. When the light is too strong or insufficient, the leaves will turn yellow and fall off.

Solution: Place the Schefflera in a semi-shaded environment and cultivate it with diffuse light. When the sun is too strong, be sure to shade the Schefflera.

2. Improper watering

Too much water or too little water will cause the Schefflera to fail to grow properly. Too much water will cause the roots of the plant to rot, while insufficient water will cause the plant to not have enough water to grow and the leaves to fall off.

Solution: Control the amount of watering. Water twice a week in spring and autumn. Increase the frequency of watering in summer and choose to water once a day. In winter, the frequency needs to be reduced to once every half a month.

3. Improper fertilization

Schefflera has relatively high requirements for fertilization. Insufficient or excessive concentration of fertilizer will cause the leaves to become unhealthy, resulting in leaf fall. Insufficient fertilizer will result in the plant not having enough nutrients to grow, causing the leaves to dry up; too high a fertilizer concentration will burn the plant and cause the leaves to fall off.

Solution: Control the degree of fertilization. In summer, you can use nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium granular fertilizer to apply to the plants once a week. During the growth period, you can apply fertilizer every 15 days, but not too much. When too much fertilizer is applied, you can choose to dilute it with water. When the fertilizer is insufficient, top dressing should be applied.

4. Unsuitable temperature

16℃~27℃ is the most suitable temperature for the growth of Schefflera chinensis. Too high or too low temperature will harm the growth of Schefflera chinensis and cause the leaves to dry up and wither.

Solution: In hot weather, move the Schefflera indoors for maintenance or provide shade, and in cold weather, take measures to keep warm.

5. Unsuitable soil

Schefflera likes loose, breathable acidic soil . When the soil is compacted or alkaline soil is used as soil, it will hinder the growth of Schefflera and cause leaves to fall off.

Solution: Replace the soil with an acidic soil with good drainage that is suitable for the growth of Schefflera.

6. Disease and insect infestation

If the plant is attacked by pests and diseases during its growth, it will become unhealthy and show leaf drop.

Solution: timely prevention and treatment, use medication to intervene when necessary, and prune off affected branches.

Many friends often encounter yellowing and falling leaves when growing Schefflera indoors. This is mainly caused by the above 6 reasons. In the actual maintenance process, we must find the correct cause and make appropriate treatment to allow the Schefflera to grow vigorously and have luxuriant branches and leaves!
