How to grow rat tail palm

soil

Rat's tail palm likes fertile soil that is well-drained and breathable, which can be mixed with leaf mold, sand, etc.

Temperature and light

Rat's tail palm likes a warm growing environment and can tolerate shade. The temperature for overwintering must be above 10℃. It must be brought indoors in time and placed in a sunny place indoors. The indoor temperature must not be lower than 10℃. It must be brought indoors after the Qingming Festival. In summer, keep the air ventilated and grow it outdoors. Pay attention to shade and cooling.

Watering

Avoid rain, as this will cause root rot. It is necessary to maintain a certain humidity in summer and avoid long-term dryness, which is not conducive to the growth of rat tail palm. The soil should be kept relatively dry in winter and watering should be controlled. The principle should be not to water unless the soil is dry and to water thoroughly when watering. The soil should not be too wet. After the flower buds appear, reduce the amount of watering to prevent the flower buds from falling. During the growing period, spray water frequently to keep it moist and increase the humidity of the indoor air.

Fertilization

Rat's tail palm should be fertilized with liquid fertilizer once every two weeks, mainly organic fertilizer. No fertilizer is needed in winter and summer.

Pest and disease prevention

Rat-tail palm is easily harmed by red spider mites. The diseased parts are generally yellow-brown and can be prevented by spraying malathion.

Repotting

The rat tail palm needs to be repotted twice a year, after it blooms. If the roots fill up the pot, change to a larger pot.
