How to grow tulips at home and when to plant them

How to grow tulips at home and when to plant them

1. Selecting bulbs

Before planting tulips at home, you must first select good bulbs. Only by ensuring the basic conditions of the bulbs can subsequent growth and flowering be achieved. The bulbs must be full, solid and strong, with a diameter of more than 4 cm and no obvious damage on the surface.

2. Processing of bulbs

After the bulbs are selected and purchased, they must be processed first. The dark brown outer skin must be peeled off, and then a disinfectant solution is prepared. The bulbs are placed in it for soaking and disinfection. After disinfection, they are taken out and placed aside to dry.

3. Prepare the soil

After preparing the bulbs, you can prepare the necessary potting soil. The flowerpot must be well-ventilated and can be made of clay. It does not need to be too big, with a diameter of about 10-20 cm. Spread expanded clay at the bottom of the flowerpot. To prepare suitable soil, it should be loose and fertile, have good drainage, and be rich in humus. After preparing the potting soil, you can expose it to the sun for sterilization and then use it after processing.

4. Planting in pots

Prepare the soil, fill part of it with soil, then plant the bulbs in it, then cover and compact the soil, leaving part of the bulbs on the soil surface. Afterwards, water it thoroughly and place it in a cool and ventilated place for subsequent maintenance.

5. Planting time

Tulips prefer a cool climate and can be planted from October to November every year.
