Growth characteristics of peony flowers

The growing period of peony flowers is related to the changes of seasons. In spring, after the temperature rises, buds will begin to sprout, and leaf buds or flower buds will appear. As the temperature rises, the leaf buds begin to grow stems and leaves, and the flower buds pull out flower stems. Leaves and flowers will grow on the flower stems, and flower buds can differentiate again after the flowers fade.

Characteristics of flower bud differentiation in peony

The differentiation of flower buds is very important because it is related to the flowering of peony flowers. During the growth process of peony flowers, the differentiation of flower buds usually takes a long time. Generally speaking, it takes three months for the flower buds of single-petal peonies to differentiate, usually from late August to early September. For double-petaled peonies, the time for flower bud differentiation is longer, generally three and a half months, and the flower bud differentiation can only be completed by late November.

Flowering characteristics of peony

Peonies also have different characteristics when they bloom. When the climate is normal, the peony buds begin to grow in February every year, buds begin to appear during the Waking of Insects, flower stems begin to emerge during the Spring Equinox, the buds grow larger during the Qingming Festival, and the flowers bloom around the Grain Rain Festival.

The whole process is very long, and the main factor affecting its flowering is temperature. The temperature can cause the peony to bloom earlier or later. From this characteristic, ensuring sufficient accumulated temperature can promote the flowering of peony flowers. If the accumulated temperature is insufficient, the peony flowers cannot bloom immediately. At this time, the temperature can be raised to accelerate the blooming of the peony flowers.

Growth characteristics of peony root

The growth of peony roots is actually affected by temperature. When the temperature is below 4℃, the roots of the peony will be in a semi-dormant state and growth will stagnate. When the temperature rises in the second year, it will start growing again, and its growth rate will continue to accelerate as the temperature rises. In summer, when the temperature is above 30℃, the peony will enter semi-dormancy. After entering autumn, the temperature drops and the roots of the peony begin to grow again, but they will stop when the temperature drops to 4℃.
