How to plant lilac seeds

How to plant lilac seeds

Environmental conditions

Lilac is mainly distributed in subtropical highlands, warm temperate zones, temperate hillsides and sunny places in cold temperate zones. As for the habits of lilac, it is light-loving and relatively prefers warm, humid and sunny areas. In addition, lilac is not very shade-tolerant and is relatively cold- and drought-tolerant. Lilac seed planting has high requirements for temperature and light, but not for soil. It is tolerant to poor soil, but still prefers fertile, loose, well-drained soil. When planting lilac seeds, be sure not to plant them in low-lying areas to avoid water accumulation.

Planting method

Seed propagation is one of the most important propagation methods for lilac cultivation. The sowing season is spring and autumn, and spring sowing is best in the north, mainly in indoor potted plants or in the open field.

For indoor pot sowing, it is done in a cold room in early spring, and the seedlings will emerge in more than half a month; for outdoor sowing, the seeds must first be stored in sand under a relatively low temperature environment, so as to shorten the emergence time. In addition, furrow sowing and large-scale planting can be carried out, as long as attention is paid to the furrow depth and the spacing between plants. Regardless of whether it is sown in pots indoors or outdoors, the seedlings should be transplanted after they grow a few leaves. The number of transplants and pot divisions is determined based on the specific conditions and the growth status of the lilac plants. Generally speaking, there is one plant in each pot for cultivation, and thinning or transplanting twice can be done in the open field.
