How to propagate Jade Plant by cuttings?

Jade plant grows very quickly and is easy to manage, and due to its growth characteristics, it is very suitable for shaping into bonsai of various shapes. Jade Plant is mainly propagated by cuttings, which is simple to operate and has a high survival rate. Let’s learn how to propagate Jade Plant by cuttings.

1. Cutting time

Jade Plant can be propagated by cuttings throughout the year, but the climatic conditions in spring and autumn are most suitable and the survival rate is the highest. Measures should be taken to lower the surrounding temperature for summer cuttings to provide a suitable growth environment for the plants. The plants should be moved indoors in winter and kept warm to increase the survival rate.

2. Cuttings

Cut branches with leaves from healthy plants, about 8-12 cm in length. Remove bottom leaves to avoid soil contact which can cause rot. You can choose to apply carbendazim to prevent root rot. Place the branches in a cool place to dry, and then cut them after the wounds have healed.

3. Cutting method

The cutting depth should be about one-third of the length of the cutting, and avoid being too deep to affect the plant's breathing. Provide diffuse light and avoid direct light which can cause plant rot. Keep the temperature at 15-20 degrees, suitable for plant growth. Water thoroughly at one time to keep the soil moist and promote rooting.

4. Maintenance after cultivation

Use a mixture of leaf mulch and garden soil, with the proportion of leaf mulch being higher than that of garden soil to increase soil nutrients. Disinfect the soil before planting to prevent bacteria and insect eggs from harming the plant roots. Place tiles at the bottom of the flower pot to ensure smooth drainage and avoid water accumulation. Pay attention to the amount of watering and keep the soil moist to avoid root problems caused by excessive dryness or wetness.

In general, the cuttings and maintenance of Jade Plant require attention to details and suitable environmental conditions. Through the correct cutting method and careful maintenance and management, the survival rate can be improved and the plants can grow healthily.
